1st Annual National Blogger Outreach Day

One day, December 17th - we'll be stepping out from behind our computers & giving back to our local communities.

As a blogger, we often spend hours a day sitting in front of our computers digging deep into the social media world and helping to promote products and services fit for families. The rest of the day were running errands, taking care of the kids, fixing dinner and doing the household chores.

I recently had to go downtown to do some business. While there I noticed the large amount of homeless people that had tents set up and were making there own communities on the streets. My fiance had mentioned that one day he wanted to make a big pot of soup and go out and feed the homeless one day. I also had the kids make bags of goodies that we went out and handed out too so that the kids can see how some of these people actually live and how to often we ALL take things for granted.

It hit me! Why not make this a global out reach day for bloggers? That on one day, December 17th - blogs across the country will be stepping out from behind their computers & giving back to their own local communities. We'll each hold our out reaches and blog / tweet about it, in hopes to open up conversation about volunteering or giving back to the homeless and those in need. We stopped the other day to get some banana's for this homeless lady we saw in really bad shape and found out she was blind. It just broke my heart and I still tear up just thinking about it. This poor blind woman, living alone on the street....just heart breaking!

Bloggers - If you would like to hold an outreach in your own community please shoot me an email. It's up to you how far you want to take this. We are hoping to hold a larger even at a local park. But.....even just cleaning out your closets or baking some yummy goodies to take down to the local shelter is just as good!

Companies - If you would like to make a donation, please email me for more information. Anything, big or small helps! Our focus here is the homeless - which is usually adults only. Things needed - socks, undies, books, food, sleeping bags, blankets, gloves / mittens, things for the disabled, etc....

So we are just getting settled in and I can't tell you how much of a turn around this has been emotionally! For years & years I've been so unhappy and just not satisfied with life. I now sometimes I feel scared that I'm so happy....something has gotta come along, right? Or is there such thing as happiness forever? :) lol! I feel so blessed and happy! You know I have to share, I was in church a couple weeks ago and the pastor was preaching about our needs and wants. He said - Why is it that when God gives you want you want, what you've been asking for , you still want....how come we can't just be satisfied and live day to day with what he has given us? Live in the moment & be thankful!

Well we've made the decision to move out of state and it's been one of the most stressful things to do! Hence that your not seeing regular updates here on our blog! I've been out once looking at homes, but did not find anything that I was completely happy with. So will be going out a second time (which will have to be my final attempt). I will be the first to admit that yes, I am picky, more than I probably should. But......I am living there and this will be my home, don't I deserve to be picky?? Being that this is my last trip and that I'm running out of time, I am so afraid that I will end up with something that I'm not completely happy with.......luckily we are renting and in a year we will be able to move if we end up being not happy at all and it should be easier to find a place being there.

So...in these last three weeks in California I'm going to miss everyone here, but then on the other side of things, extremely excited to start this new chapter in life! Lots of lunch dates in the next few weeks :)

Columbus Day & School

I have to say I was really impressed with the teachers at the kids school today. Usually they take the bus but I decided to take them today so I could talk to their teachers about how they teach Columbus Day. I was super impressed! I talked to both teachers and explained that we teach the kids that Columbus did not discover American - the Native Americans were already here first......and if they taught otherwise and got an odd response from our children I wanted to make sure the teachers know where that response was coming from and that is what we teach.

After talking to both teachers - they shared our same thoughts - neither one of them would be schooling too much on Columbus day and they both did not agree in the Columbus Day Holiday......wow! This was great news and gave me more confidence in the teachers! Way to go teachers who are teaching it right!!

I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for their prayers, patience and understanding throughout the last two weeks. I have never experienced the death of a close family member - or anyone for that matter. The passing of my Grandmother has been extremely hard and I know this is only the beginning.

Having family and friends around - especially the kids helps to take your mind off things and I try to stay busy. If I stop for a moment I will think of her and just break down.

Home Schooling

We live in a very small town, it's still Los Angeles, just a very isolated part of LA - which can be a good thing!! We get the fresh air, beautiful scenery and no horrific traffic! But....we don't have much of a choice when it comes to schooling. When we first moved here we had two elementary schools in our area. We loved the school our son attended! Then, the budge crises hit us and they ended up closing down our school and cramming all the kids into one school. It was a disaster waiting to happen! We knew from the get go that this was not going to be an exciting year as from the beginning we had problems and the school seemed to just not be able to handle it.

One thing I did learn is that it's not always the budget for the lack of field trips and activities. We approached the principle and asked why was the Kinders not having a graduation as we did at the other school . We were told by one of the teachers it was a lack of space - which we did not by because there's plenty of grass, as well as the auditorium. We were told that every teacher (class) has an allowance set aside for field trips & activities - that it is up to them whether they want to make the event happen. It seems this year we just had a bunch of teachers "not into it this year" which is very disappointing!

Anyway, I could go on and on with the lack of participation from school officials & teachers. But....what I have struggled with is whether or not to Home School. I am leaning on the positive side of this. It will keep my kids focused and away from picking up "bad behavior" as well as providing them one on one teaching that they could not get in a public school. We could do more hands on & more field trips. I always learned better hands on anyway as I'm not one to sit in classroom and take in much from a lecture!!

So...this is my first year home schooling!! I'm excited & nervous all at the same time!! I want to hear your tips and advice at making this year a great year for myself & my children!!
